History:
Subspace life-forms that lived in low orbit around planet Marijne VII. The Marijne beings resembled a small chemical flame, but were highly intelligent. When the Starship Raman entered Marijne VII's atmosphere in 2370, several of these beings were accidentally trapped aboard as the ship climbed to higher altitudes. The Marijne beings attempted to communicate with the crew, by directly accessing their thoughts, but this proved fatal to the scientists. Geordi La Forge explored the Raman with an interface unit and found what appeared to be his mother, Silva La Forge, aboard the vessel. Geordi learned that the entity that appeared to be his mother was one of the Marijne beings, who had used her image to communicate their need to return home.
